Luke Matthews passed away at a local area hospital on Sunday afternoon after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 16, just south of Highway 63. According to investigators, Matthews was driving north on Highway 16 when he crossed the centerline and hit Aristide Dixon, who was headed southbound on the highway. Following the initial crash, another car that was traveling southbound was hit.
Matthews was taken a local hospital after suffering from severe injuries, he later died from his injuries. His passenger and Dixon were also taken to a nearby hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries. The condition of the third driver is unknown.
The accident remains under investigation, toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
