Fisherman
On average, about 75 per 100,000 fisherman die each year in the workplace. Louisiana’s commercial fishing industry produces 25 percent of all seafood in America, which means thousands of residents are part of this dangerous industry. Fatigue and bad weather are often the cause of these fatal accidents.
Sanitation Worker
Surprisingly, sanitation workers actually have higher fatality rates than police and firemen. About 33 per every 100,000 sanitation workers are fatally injured while on the job. There are many risks involved in sanitation, including reckless drivers who try to get around these trucks. Dangerous and sharp materials can also lead to serious accidents.
Logger
Considered the most dangerous occupation, more than 90 per 100,000 loggers are fatally injured while on the job. Injuries from fallen tree limbs and dangerous equipment are a constant threat. Although this is the most dangerous job in America, the fatality rate actually fell by about 28 percent between 2012 and 2013.
