Summer can be an exciting time for teen drivers, unfortunately, the American Auto Club (AAA) also calls this time period the deadliest.

According to the AAA, teen drivers are at increased risk as many will have more time to cruise the roads. These are drivers with minimal experience handling difficult situations.
Furthermore, during the summer months, teens are much more likely to be driving with friends. Studies have shown that an increased number of passengers increases the risk of a teen driver crash by 44 percent. Loud conversations and horseplay are more likely to cause a dangerous incident when a teen is behind the wheel.
In Louisiana, drivers with an intermediate license may not have more than one passenger under the age of 21 riding in their vehicle between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless the passenger is a family member.
Although teens are at great risk during this time, other motorists are as well. Approximately two-thirds of people injured or killed in a crash involving a teen driver were people other than the teen behind the wheel. Victims may include the teen driver’s passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists.
