Nancy M. Claitor, the mother of Baton Rouge state Sen. Dan Claitor, unfortunately passed away late Wednesday evening follow her involvement in an auto accident on Airline Highway in Ascension Parish.
According to troopers, the collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Airline Highway near Old Perkins Road on Oct. 18. Nancy Claitor was in the right-hand lane of the highway and a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup pulling a large trailer was behind her in the left lane.
Claitor shifted her vehicle into the left lane in front of the truck as she tried to make a legal U-turn, but she stopped and the truck rear-ended her SUV. Claitor’s husband was in the front seat and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Just before midnight on Wednesday, Claitor passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
“I have never known a soul so kind and giving. As my dad said, mom is going to make a pretty angel. I have peace knowing she is with the Lord. Thank you all for your prayers and condolences. Our family deeply appreciates your outpour of support.” said Sen. Claitor in a public Facebook post.
Claitor was very supportive of her son’s political career and was often photographed standing by the senator’s side. The attorneys and staff extend their sincerest condolences to the Claitor family during this difficult time. We also wish Sen. Claitor’s father a speedy recovery.
