Port Allen Man Killed in Accident with Garbage Truck
Frederick Brown, Jr. of Port Allen was killed in an auto accident with a garbage truck just north of Louisiana Highway 76 on Saturday morning.
According to Louisiana State Troopers, Brown was heading northbound on Highway 415 in a passenger vehicle. At this same time, a garbage truck driver was trying to cross the westbound lanes of Highway 415 from a stop sign.
As the truck driver entered the open median, Brown’s vehicle struck the rear left corner of the garbage truck. His vehicle crossed over the median and southbound lanes, eventually, the vehicle landed in a ditch on the west side of the road.
Brown was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident but was fatally injured. The garbage truck driver was not injured and troopers do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
In a public news release, Louisiana State Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use as the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. According to Louisiana State University data reports, about 82 percent of all drivers and passengers use their seatbelts. This is about 5 percent less than the national average.
