Law Enforcement Offering Safe Riding Seminar to Motorcyclists
Law enforcement groups will be getting together in Baton Rouge to help teach motorcycle riders on how to keep themselves safe on the roadways.
The Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Championships will be hosting a civilian motorcycle training seminar on Aug. 23 in Gonzales, La. Participants will receive hands-on training by certified instructors.
The cost of the seminar is $50 and all proceeds will go to the Dream Day Foundation, which supports St. Jude Hospital in Tennessee.
Along with safe riding techniques, participants will receive a free t-shirt and lunch. After the seminar, riders will have the opportunity to compete in the 1st annual civilian competition.
In 2013, more than 2,000 motorcycle accidents were reported. Only 88 percent of cyclists were wearing helmets although the state requires that all riders wear helmets. The percentage of drivers wearing helmets was less in 2013 than it was in 2012. Along with safe and proper riding skills, motorcyclists should also remember to wear the right gear, including helmets, to better protect themselves.
