GM Announces New Recall Affecting 7.6 Million Vehicles
Adding to its woes, General Motors has announced a new recall that now affects 7.6 million vehicles due to a range of problems. According to General Motors, the company is aware of three fatal crashes involving affected models.
Vehicles ranging the 1997 to 2014 models years have been affected. GM is aware of seven crashes and eight injuries from these vehicles as well as the three deaths. The fatal collisions involved older full-size sedans that are being recalled for an “inadvertent key rotation.”

2012-14 Chevrolet Sonic
2013-2014 Chevrolet Trax
2013-14 Buick Encore
2013-14 Buick Verano
2013-14 Buick Verano
2014 Chevrolet Camaro and Impala
2014 Buick Regal
2014 Cadillac XTS
2007-11 Chevrolet Silverado HD equipped with an auxiliary battery

More than 7 million of the vehicles are being recalled due to unintended ignition key rotation other issues include a possible electrical short, risk of insulation damage and risk of an underhood fusible link melting.
The news of the recall came just hours after the company announced that they would be setting up a compensation plan for victims involved in accidents linked to their faulty ignition switch. Earlier this year, the company recalled millions of vehicles due to a faulty ignition switch; the switch has been linked to dozens of car accidents and approximately 13 deaths.
Kenneth Feinberg, the same individual who handled the compensation claims for 911 victims will be the Administrator for GM compensation claims. Drivers, passengers, pedestrians and persons in other vehicles that were injured in an accident with a recalled GM vehicle may be entitled to file a claim.
However, if an individual chooses to file and accept the compensation from GM, they waive their right to sue the company.
