The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating an accident that resulted in the ejection and death of a passenger on Wednesday night.
Vernon Rogers was ejected from a Jeep during a single-vehicle wreck on Scotland Avenue near Thomas Road around 10:45 p.m. Rogers was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The driver’s name and the condition have not been released – neither victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
According to police, the Jeep Liberty was headed north on Scotland Avenue high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed; local news reports had footage that showed some pieces of wreckage were still at the scene.
Investigators believe that alcohol was not a factor, however, the rate of speed the driver was traveling in could have contributed to the loss of vehicle control. Speeding is one of the top three causes of car accidents in America.
