Lake Charles Man Dies After Head-On Collision on I-10
Jeremy Anthony Olivier was killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 10 on Saturday night.
According to police, Derek Paul Cooper was traveling the wrong direction on I-10 westbound when he collided with Olivier at the top of the Ruth Street overpass. Cooper has been arrested on a DWI charge.
Olivier, a resident of Lake Charles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cooper was taken to local hospital for blood testing and could face more charges; his condition was not revealed.
Although the number of alcohol-related car accidents reported in Louisiana have dropped over the years, nearly 300 people were killed in 2013 due to an intoxicated driver. Overall, more than 40 percent of all traffic fatalities were caused by a drunk driver.
