Three Killed, Two Injured in Livingston Parish NYE Accident
Shortly after leaving a New Year’s Eve function at their church, the Chisolm family was involved in a head-on collision that led to the deaths of three people while two others were hospitalized with injuries.
Around 8:15 p.m., a Mazda sedan driven by Trinity Kiger crossed the center line of Walker Road North and crashed into the SUV carrying the Chisolm family. Ronald Chisolm, his wife Shannon Chisolm, and their two children were in the vehicle.
Kiger was killed in the crash, as was Mrs. Chisolm, and 11-year-old Hannah Chisolm. The couple’s 14-year-old daughter Haley suffered moderate injuries. Mr. Chisolm was also injured in the crash.
Police are still investigating the crash, but have said that they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. Some reports have speculated that speed may have been a factor. Bobbie Tomblinson Jr., Shannon Chisolm’s brother, said via Facebook that the driver was going 80 miles per hour and couldn’t hold his lane.
This is the second fatal accident in one month on that particular stretch of Walker Road; an accident in early December led to two deaths.
According to The Advocate, the Chisolm family were regular church goers who did their best to help others in need.
